Music is a part of all our lives. At Owairaka we aim to give children a range of musical experiences that will set them on a path to enjoying a wide variety of music.
All members of the school community are encouraged to share their musical interests and talents. Every class has a weekly lesson in the performing arts room with our music specialist.
Part of learning about music is learning the vocabulary of the subject. As children’s vocabulary increases they have the confidence to talk about the music they hear, play and create. They are able to express and write about all of this.
We actively promote real, live music at school events, especially whole school assemblies. Students also have the opportunity to attend musical performances.
We have instrumental and choral groups that perform at school and in various Auckland festivals.
