The Ministry of Education directed Owairaka School to introduce a school enrolment scheme in order to avoid over-crowding. This scheme came into effect from 23 May, 2016.
The full Enrolment Scheme from the Ministry of Education can be seen here and is also available from the school office. Under this scheme, students have the right to be enrolled if they live within the described home zone. The enrolment of out-of-zone students is governed by the provisions of the Education Act 1989. All students who already attend our school will be treated as if they live ‘in zone’, no matter where they live.
Enrolment Update - 10 September 2019
The Board has determined that 20 places are likely to be available for out-of-zone students in Terms One and Two next year. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
There will be two enrolment periods. The first enrolment period runs from 7 February 2020 to 3 July 2020.
For students seeking enrolment within the first enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of applications for out-of-zone places is 3.00pm Wednesday 15 October 2019.
Application forms can be obtained from the school office bring one of the following documents Birth Certificate or Passport with you.
If the number of out of zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out-of-zone places is required, it will be held on 22 October 2019. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
For details relating to the second enrolment period contact the school office.
